TIBCO® Data Science Service for TIBCO Spotfire® Overview

TIBCO® Data Science for TIBCO Spotfire® Analyst is a REST API web service that manages a pool of Statistica instances for concurrent user access to Statistica capabilities within the TIBCO Spotfire® Server environment.

TIBCO® Data Science for TIBCO Spotfire® Analyst is also known as Statistica Service. This service can execute Statistica workflows submitted by TIBCO Spotfire® Analyst or TIBCO Spotfire® Consumer/TIBCO Spotfire® Business Author users as Spotfire data functions. Data functions are reusable and parameterizable analytic operations defined in Spotfire environment and implemented by analytic engines like TERR (as scripts) or Statistica (as workflows). They are authored in Spotfire® Analyst and can be embedded in Spotfire analyses or saved in Spotfire Library for subsequent reuse.

TIBCO Spotfire® can call external analytic engines through data functions. Statistica uses this capability to give Spotfire users a way to drive their dashboards using Statistica workflows (analytic models, business rules, and data transformations).

In Spotfire, you can use Statistica data functions to express calculations, computations, and transformations through Statistica workspaces. With this functionality, Spotfire can leverage Statistica to perform complex computations.

Spotfire has the following two interfaces:

TIBCO Spotfire® Analyst users can author analyses/dashboards (DXP files) containing Statistica data functions (SDF); SDF support is provided through TIBCO® Data Science for TIBCO Spotfire® Analyst. Other users can then consume those dashboards in Spotfire® Analyst desktop client.

Alternatively, if the DXP file is saved to Spotfire Library on Spotfire® Server, it can be consumed through a web browser, using Spotfire® Consumer/Spotfire® Business Author interface. To support this scenario, TIBCO® Data Science for TIBCO Spotfire® Analyst must be installed on Spotfire Server.
