Finding a Resource

The Organization Browser contains a Find function that allows you to find the desired resource(s) in a list of resources. Using the Find function, you can search for any matching text in any of the columns on the list of resources. For example, you can search for all resources who have a resource name containing “Johnson” by searching on the Resource Name column.

Procedure

  1. In the left pane in the Organization Browser, select the group, position, or container that contains the resource you are looking for.

The Find function will only search through the resources in the group, position, or container you have selected.

  2. Click the button on the Organization Browser toolbar, or select Find Resource(s) from the Tools menu.

This causes the Find fields to be displayed above the list of resources:

  3. From the drop-down list on the second Find function field, select the column on which you want to search:

    This list contains the following:

    • Resource Name
    • Container Name
    • Resource attribute fields - These are used to store information about resources. For example, a “Cellphone” resource attribute (as in the list shown above) can be used to store each resource’s cell phone number.

The resource attributes available on each system is different, depending on how the organization model was designed. For more information about resource attributes, see Resource Attributes.

  4. Enter the text you want to search for, then click the green arrow icon () to the right of the Find field (or press Enter). For example, if you selected “Resource Name” in the second Find function field, then entered “Li” in the Find field, the Find function will return all resources whose Resource Name contains “Li” anywhere in the Resource Name value:

Also note that in addition to displaying all resources that contain "Li", the first occurrence that begins with "Li" is automatically selected. (If no resources begin with the entered character(s), the first resource in the list is selected.)

  5. After finding the desired resource, you can perform any of the available functions as described in this document.
  6. The Find function can be turned off by clicking the button. The complete list of resources in the group, position, or container that you currently have selected is displayed. Any characters that are currently in the Find field will remain there until you change or delete them, or close the Organization Browser.
