Creating a Password File for the Apache HTTP Server The Apache HTTP server requires a password file. Procedure Open a terminal window. Navigate to APACHE_HOME. Create a htpasswd subdirectory to store the password file. Create a blank htpasswords file, if not already there in this directory. Navigate to the APACHE_HOME/bin directory.
