Upgrading an Earlier Installation

Read these instructions before upgrading from an earlier version of ActiveSpaces.

Prerequisites

Backup all data directories: the realm server, all state keepers and nodes.

Note: During the upgrade process do not make changes to the grid configuration such as adding or removing tables and adding or removing indexes.

Upgrade the TIBCO FTL realm servers to the TIBCO FTL 5.3.1 realm servers.
Refer to 'Upgrading Realm Servers' in the TIBCO FTL Administration guide.
Install ActiveSpaces 3.5 on one machine in the grid.

Note: It is suggested that you install the new version of ActiveSpaces on a machine used for administration and use the tibdg client on that machine.
Run the following command run from the new version on an existing data grid before you start any of the nodes in the new version:
```
tibdg -r realm_server_URL grid rebuild
```
Note: ActiveSpaces 3.5.0 tibdg grid rebuild needs to run on the existing grid prior to upgrading ActiveSpaces components.
Upgrade the state keepers using the procedure outlined in 'Upgrading Persistence Servers' in the TIBCO FTL^® Administration guide.
Follow this sequence to upgrade all nodes:
1. Upgrade all secondary nodes.
2. Upgrade all primary nodes.
  Use the following command to check the role of each node:
```
tibdg -r realm_server_URL status
```
Upgrade all proxies.
Upgrade all ActiveSpaces clients.
