Expected Results

After the 837 transaction is received by the host BusinessConnect Container Edition - EDI Protocol HIPAA Edition powered by Instream, the following events occur:

  1. The host BusinessConnect Container Edition converts the XML data to X12 data.

  2. The host validates the X12 data against the 837 Professional guideline.

  3. The validated X12 data is bundled into an interchange for sending the data to trading partner.

  4. The X12 interchange is sent to the trading partner BusinessConnect Container Edition using HTTP.

  5. The trading partner receives the X12 data.

  6. The trading partner validates the X12 data against the 837 Professional guideline.

  7. The trading partner converts the X12 data to XML data.

  8. The trading partner generates TA1, 997, 824, and 277U X12 acknowledgments.

  9. The generated X12 acknowledgments are returned to the host.

  10. The trading partner sends the 837 XML data to its private process.

  11. The host validates each X12 acknowledgment that it receives against the appropriate guideline.

  12. The host converts each X12 acknowledgment into XML data.

  13. The host sends the XML data for each acknowledgment to its private process.

  14. The host private process logs the status from each XML data acknowledgment.

What You Can Observe

  • The Send HIPAA 837 Professional Request activity of the Send HIPAA 837 Request process contains the output that indicates the 837 Professional transaction is successfully sent to the trading partner.

  • The audit logs in the host and trading partner contain entries for each processing state that occurred in BusinessConnect Container Edition. See Viewing Logs.
