Overview of Metrics

Metrics are sets of formulas computed on data values received. The formulas are defined in the fields of an entity type called a metric. The field values are computed at runtime in a rule that is triggered on receiving an event that contains relevant data.

Metrics are computed in inference agents and metric data is written to the cache, and optionally to the backing store (depending on configuration).

Dashboard agents query the metric data when it changes, using data source queries, and send the data to Dashboard. Charts update accordingly. A data source may query for a subset of the available metric data. For more details on data source, seeData Sources.
