Adding URL Links to Metric Fields and Tracking Fields

URL links are an optional feature, configured in the metric editor. You can add links to some, none, or all metric and tracking fields, as desired.

The URL link can be external or internal. External links go to external web sites which display in a separate browser window. Internal links open an internal resource in a Dashboard search page, also in a separate browser window.

Note: When you sign out from Dashboard (or lose connection to the server), all pages that opened to display internal links close. Pages that opened to display external URLs remain open.

You can add internal links to concepts and to metrics. You can format the URL links using substitution variables.

URL links can appear in the following locations in Dashboard:

  • When the user clicks on a data point in a chart and selects the URL Link option, a list of all the URL links defined for metric fields displays.
  • When the user is viewing a search page, each column in the search page table displays data for one metric field. Each field that has a URL link becomes clickable. Tracking field URL links also display in tracking field rows

Procedure

  1. Open the metric in the Metric editor.
  2. Double-click the cell for a URL link, and click the browse button.
  3. In the URL Information editor, enter a name and a URL. You can format the URL using substitution variables. See Substitution Variable Syntax.
  4. Click OK.

In the row for the metric or tracking field, the name appears in the URL Name cell, and the URL displays in the URL Link cell.

  5. Save the resource.
