Arguments

state.abb, state.name character abbreviations and names for the 50 U.S. states, sorted alphabetically by name.
state.center list with components named x and y giving the approximate geographic center of each state in negative longitude and latitude (as used by the function usa). Alaska and Hawaii are placed just off the West Coast.
state.region category giving the region of each state: Northeast, South, North Central, or West.
state.division category giving state divisions: New England, Middle Atlantic, South Atlantic, East South Central, West South Central, East North Central, West North Central, Mountain, and Pacific.
state.x77 matrix giving statistics for each of the states. Columns are the Population estimate as of July 1, 1975; per capita Income (1974); Illiteracy, given as a percent of the population (1970); Life Expectancy in years (1969-71); Murder and non-negligent manslaughter rate per 100,000 population (1976); percent of high-school graduates (1970); mean number of days when the minimum temperature is less than 32 degrees in the state capital or other large city (1931-1960); and land Area in square miles.
