Note 1: BPX.DEFAULT.USER Advisory:
IBM has modified the way that a system service, BPX.DEFAULT USER, is implemented on the z/OS platform. The update which was originally intended to be released starting in z/OS 2.1 has been extended by way of PTFs to two (2) other operating systems, z/OS 1.12 and 1.13, to help those using BPX.DEFAULT.USER convert to BPX.UNIQUE.USER before migrating to z/OS V2.1.
Information Builders recommends that our customers (who utilize MSO and other Information Builders products which call the BPX.DEFAULT.USER macro via our use of the IBM LE compiler to obtain USS (Unix System Services) utilities like TCP/IP) read the IBM documentation on the following APARS and PTFs:
IBM z/OS 2.1 APAR OA42554
IBM z/OS 1.13 PTF UA69991
IBM z/OS 1.12 PTF UA69990
The documentation instructs IBM customers how to implement RACF rules for those users who need to gain access to USS services using the new BPX.UNIQUE.USER macro. Failure to implement the new RACF rules or IBM maintenance may result in FOCUS error messages being issued.
Note 2: For z/OS release 2.2 and higher:
There are two FOCUS features that require APF authorization:
The FOCUS zIIP feature in FOCUS releases 7.6.10 and higher, 7.7.03M, 7.7.06M, and 7.7.09M.
The FOCUS MSO environment in FOCUS releases 7.6.13 and lower.
If your libraries are APF authorized via TSO, you may get the following message when issuing the FOCUS DYNAM COPY command:
(FOC870) UNABLE TO COPY USER1.FOCEXEC.DATA, RFFFF-01
If you have the new z/OS maintenance, you will also get the following message when using DYNAM COPY from FOCUS running unauthorized via PGM=FOCUS:
(FOC942) COPY/COMPRESS FAILED, IEBCOPY REQUIRES APF AUTHORIZATION
FOCUS for Mainframe has a fix for these issues included in FOCUS 7709M gen 1544, FOCUS 7.7.06M gen 941, 77.03M gen 787, and FOCUS 7.6.13 gen 538 and higher releases.
Note 3: For z/OS releases 2.2 and higher:
Issue: The FOCUS ? PTF command, used in FOCUS releases 7.08R - 7.613 to determine the level of FOCUS maintenance, no longer works in a CLIST or batch JCL run "above the line."
Since the ? PTF command is used infrequently, Information Builders has decided not to distribute a PTF or Hotfix to remediate this issue because doing so could introduce instability in otherwise stable FOCUS releases.
Solution: When moving to IBM z/OS release 2.2 or higher, either retain an existing, or define a new, JES batch class that contains the parameter SWA=BELOW. With this parameter, a FOCUS batch job with the ? PTF command placed within the //SYSIN DD allocation will produce output in the JESLOG that reports the FOCUS maintenance level. Information Builders does not suggest changing your site's TSO environment in order to run this command from a CLIST.
Note 4: If you upgrade your IBM operating system release to z/OS 2.3 or higher, you must apply maintenance to your FOCUS release. This maintenance (distributed as Information Builders PTF 322396) is required for FOCUS releases 7.0.8R, 7.0.9, 7.1.1, 7.2.1 through 7.2.11, 7.3.1 through 7.3.12, and 7.6.1 through 7.6.13 when run on z/OS 2.3 or higher. For details about the issue, and instructions for ordering the required PTF, see Required Maintenance for FOCUS When Upgrading to IBM z/OS 2.3 or Higher.
Note 5: As of zOS 2.4, IBM no longer allows the use of ALLOWUSERKEYCSA = YES. This represents a potential security hole. As of zOS 2.4, the only allowable setting is NO. This requires the installation of the latest IB FOCUS subsystem, which was made available as a PTF in the 76 release. The subsystem is used by the sink machine. Failure to upgrade will result in an abend. This new subsystem is totally compatible with previous FOCUS versions and can be installed and used prior to zOS 2.4 upgrade. For more information, see TM8062: Required IBI Subsystem Maintenance for z/OS 2.4.
Note 6: Please note that unlike previous versions, these FOCUS versions are a full 64-bit release. It is delivered in extended format. Please review the Summary of New Features and the Release Notes for additional information.
Note 7: FOCUS 7.3.0 through 7.3.12 require a PTF zap to prevent an abend. Please contact TIBCO support to receive this zap.
Note 8: FOCUS 7.6 and above requires a PTF zap to prevent an abend. Please contact TIBCO support to receive this zap.
