Web or File-based Configuration

TIBCO Fulfillment Provisioning supports the following two simple mechanisms for defining the configuration data:

  1. Dynamic web pages.

  2. Configuration files.

When you configure Fulfillment Provisioning Catalog using the dynamic web pages, the corresponding configuration files are automatically generated. This allows you to save and restore any configuration at any time. Also, since the objects are saved in the file in ASCII sort order, you can compare a configuration with a previously saved one to see what changed.

Updates that you make using the web pages are effective immediately, whereas changes you make to the configuration files will not take effect until you either:

  • restart TIBCO Fulfillment Provisioning Catalog/Fulfillment Provisioning, or

  • use the provadmin update catalog command.

Refer to the Fulfillment Provisioning User's Guide for more information about the provadmin command.

Warning: If you make changes to the configuration files, and then make other changes using the web pages before restarting or reloading, the second set of changes will overwrite the first set. You must use one method or the other, not both.

When you are first setting up the system, you may need to set up a large number of rules, products, and so on. To speedup this process, you might wish to set up the first few using the web page interface, then edit the configuration files to create the complete catalog.

Note: Partially defined objects are not saved to the configuration files. Instead, a warning is inserted. To ensure a valid configuration, make sure there are no such warnings in these files. If there are, you can use the web pages to complete the object definitions.
