Performance: Message Swapping

Swapping message data to disk reduces memory usage for stored messages in exchange for increased disk usage. Note that, when message swapping is enabled, some metadata is retained in memory for each message, except for persistent messages when the indexes on disk feature is enabled.

If in-memory storage is enabled, or messages are non-persistent, message swapping results in an asynchronous disk write at the server to write the message data. A read from disk may be required when delivering the message.

If disk persistence is enabled, there is no additional write to disk for persistent messages. An additional read might be required when delivering the message.
