Description
This parameter defines the maximum number of Unix/Server run processes that the Staffware background will attempt to allow to run concurrently.
This stops the server machine from being swamped by the number of processes that are running on the system due to Staffware.
Tuning
Tuning of this parameter can have significant effects both positively and negatively to the performance of Staffware when procedures generate a large number of Process Invocations.
By increasing this value you can allow the processor to execute a number of Process Invocations simultaneously, with even greater gains of multi-processor machines. As long as this value is not increase to a limit above which the Operating System has problems managing the number of processes.
There is no recommended value as each application and hardware configuration will show different characteristics. As a general guide bigger is better up to a point, and often there is a limit on the number of Process Invocations that the background can start before the initial ones complete. Therefore a value of 200 where a Process Invocation only runs for 0.5 seconds is unlikely to be reached.
