Installation Requirements

This section describes the supported platforms, disk space requirements, system memory requirements, and software requirements for this product.

Supported Platforms and Disk Space Requirements

Before installing this product, extract the contents of the installation archive to a temporary directory. The installer files consume up to 256 MB of disk space.

Temporary Disk Space Required by the Installer

The installer requires at least 100 MB of free space in the temporary directory. On Microsoft Windows, the temporary directory typically is:

%SystemDrive%:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp.

If your system does not have sufficient disk space in the default temporary area, you can run the installer with a different temporary directory by using the following option when starting the installer:

-is:tempdir /new_temp

where /new_temp has sufficient free disk space.

The installer calculates the disk space required in the product home location for the selected components. The calculation is done before the actual installation (copying of files to the system) begins. The installer will proceed only if sufficient free disk space is available in the product home location.

However, if disk space is consumed by another process while the installer is copying the files, and if the required disk space is thereby reduced, the installer may fail and will then give a failure message.

While performing installation, avoid running other processes that consume disk space in the product home location.

Disk Space

The required disk space depends on the platform you use and the software components you select to install. The installer calculates the required disk space in TIBCO_HOME for the selected components. The calculation is done before the actual installation, that is, copying of files to system, begins. The installer proceeds only if sufficient free disk space is available. The disk space consumed by TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for LDAP depends on platforms:

•	For Windows platforms, the adapter can consume up to 250 MB of free space under TIBCO_HOME.

•	For UNIX platforms, the adapter can consume up to 550 MB of free space under TIBCO_HOME.

System Memory Requirements

The runtime adapter is Java-based and the memory requirements are based on the amount of memory made available to the Java Virtual Machine. When running the adapter on a machine, you need to consider the following factors:

•	For 64-bit platforms containing 192 GB of physical memory, the Maximum Heap Space is 32 GB.

Software Requirements

Table 1, Required and Optional TIBCO Products lists the required and optional TIBCO software products. The software products below are distributed and installed separately from this product. See the readme file for the supported versions.

Component	Purpose
TIBCO Rendezvous	Required.
TIBCO Runtime Agent	Required by the adapter. TIBCO Runtime Agent includes TIBCO Designer along with a number of TIBCO and third-party libraries used by the adapter and other TIBCO products. You must install TIBCO Runtime Agent on each machine that hosts an adapter. And TIBCO Runtime Agent must be installed before you install the adapter.
TIBCO Adapter SDK	Required. TIBCO Adapter SDK (Software Development Kit) is a class library available in C++ and Java on multiple platforms, and is the standard toolkit used to build TIBCO Adapter applications. All adapters that are available as TIBCO products have been developed using TIBCO Adapter SDK. The SDK is available to developers who wish to create an adapter for an application for which no TIBCO Adapter product exists. This may be a custom application or a system for which demand is not high enough to make it a standard. TIBCO Adapter SDK 5.8.0 or later is automatically installed during the installation of the adapter.
TIBCO Administrator	Required for deployment. TIBCO Administrator includes the following modules: User Management  Management of authentication, roles and users, that is, connecting roles (groups) and users to access control lists (ACLs). This includes security for server-based projects at design-time and for deployed applications at runtime. Resource Management  Monitoring of machines and of all running applications in a TIBCO administration domain. Alerts can be created, for example, to notify an administrator if the number of processes or disk usage exceeds a certain number. Application Management  Uploading of Enterprise Archive (EAR) files, creation, configuration, deployment, and monitoring of applications. This console is also used to start and stop applications. TIBCO Administrator is available as a separate installation and can be installed after installing the adapter.
TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks	Optional. TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks is a scalable, extensible, and easy to use integration platform that allows you to develop integration projects. TIBCO Adapters are typically part of integration projects created using BusinessWorks. TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks is available as a separate installation and can be installed after installing the adapter.
TIBCO Enterprise Message Service	Optional. TIBCO Enterprise Message Service allows you to use the Java Messaging Services (JMS) as the message transport for your adapter. TIBCO Enterprise Message Service is available as a separate installation and can be installed after installing the adapter.
