Archiving of Log Data (ST and LogLogic EVA Only)

To extend the storage capacity of an ST or LogLogic EVA appliance, you can enable archiving by attaching additional storage to the appliance.

You can attach NAS or EMC Centera storage server to the LogLogic EVA appliance, or set up a SAN device for the ST appliances (ST2025-SAN, ST2025-SANR1, or ST2025-SANR2). This lets you archive log data to a remote storage device to free up local storage space on the appliance to use for incoming log data.

When configured with an ST or LogLogic EVA appliance, a NAS server acts as a data storage extension where log data can be accessed as if it were still on the appliance. Therefore, the same access to reporting, indexing, searching, and alerting exists on the storage server as on the appliance itself.

Centera, on the other hand, does not use a mount point and does not accept indexes. The appliance does not report alerts for Centera volumes. You can only run regex searches when connected to the Centera servers, because LogLogic LMI pulls each individual BFQ data file over to examine what the search is configured for, until it has fulfilled the timespan and then displays the results.

You can add a SAN, NAS, or Centera server to an ST appliance or NAS, or Centera server to a LogLogic EVA appliance from the Administration > Archive Configuration menu.
