How Archive Storage Works

The archive process copies the files to the SAN, NAS, or Centera server and updates the database.

Archival to NAS server

If the Direct Attached Storage (DAS) capacity reaches the watermark set in the Archive Threshold field on the Archive Configuration page, or if the files reach their retention time limit, the files are deleted.

Note:
  • Set the archive threshold to a non-zero positive number. For best results, use a number greater than 10.
  • In case of NAS server, LogLogic LMI owns the contents of the archival top directory, if one archive volume is:1.2.3.4:/ExportedShare (on the command line it appears as /loglogic/data/archive/mount_#/vol1), then every file under .../archive/mount_#/vol1 comes from the archival process.
  • If the connection with the NFS servers is lost or the NFS server is shutdown after configuring the NFS archive server, the LogLogic LMI appliance cannot be shutdown or restarted.

In HA mode, the node ID might have to be set up to avoid mount point conflicts due to multipathd being enabled. See Enabling a node ID in the archive path.

Archival to Centera server

Centera is not affected by the local DAS the watermark set in the Archive Threshold field on the Archive Configuration page. It archives immediately and the BFQ file exists on both machines for a small period of time. After that, LogLogic LMI removes it from the appliance based on settings such as local retention policy and disk space usage.
