Creating an Attribute-based Classification Scheme

Complete the following steps to create an attribute-based classification scheme.

    Procedure
  1. Navigate to Browse and Search > Create Classification Scheme.

  2. Enter a name and description for the classification scheme.

  3. (Optional) from the Data Source dropdown list, select the datasource from which the classification codes are to be uploaded.

Note: The Data Source dropdown list is not visible if a datasource is not defined or uploaded.
Note: If you have already created the classification scheme, you can still upload the classification codes from the View Repository page.

Select a data source that is defined according to the requirements. A datasource has the following format:

First-Level Code ID First-Level Code Description Second-Level Code ID Second-Level Code Description ... ... nth Level Code ID nth Level Code Description

If the data source file is not in the format mentioned above, convert the file to match this format. Also, if you have data in the XML format, create an XML data source and use XSL to convert the data into a simple tabular (flat) format.

Note: The data source filename must include only ASCII characters. If the filename includes non-ASCII characters, such as Japanese, the file is uploaded to the server correctly but the SQL loader cannot read the file.
  4. By default, a blank row for the first level in the hierarchy is already displayed. Select attributes from the Repository Attribute dropdown list.

  5. To create more levels in the hierarchy, click Create.

  6. Repeat until complete. The first attribute mapped is the first level, and so on.

  7. To delete an attribute, select the checkbox next to the attribute and click Delete.

  8. To save the custom classification scheme, click Save.

Note: When a new classification scheme is created, all the records in the repository are classified. This process takes some time to complete. During this period, if you browse the classification scheme, it is possible that not all the classification codes and records are displayed until the process is complete.
