Scanning bar codes or QR codes

If you open a Spotfire analysis that includes bar code or QR code reading capabilities, you can use your mobile device to scan items and filter the data set.

You scan a bar code or a QR code using the mobile device camera.

Prerequisites

You must be running Spotfire for Apple iOS 2.5 or later on your iOS device, and the analysis you are using must include the property for machine-readable codes (QR codes or bar codes). If the bar code button on your mobile device is not active, and you expect it to be active, ask the analysis designer to add support for the feature.

Procedure

  1. Using your mobile device, open the analysis containing machine-readable property, and that has a column containing the bar codes or QR codes.
An analysis that has the property to scan bar codes and QR codes shows an active scanning icon. For example, this image shows a view into a book list where the first column is the ISBN, which you can scan with the device.

  2. Tap the bar code icon.
The mobile device activates the camera.
  3. Focus the camera on the bar code or QR code to scan.
The device captures the bar code or QR code, and then Spotfire performs the action (filtering, or populating a text box, for example) that the analysis author intends. For example, for the book list above, the analysis writes the scanned code to the text area and filters the book list to show just the book with the bar code that was captured.
