Preferences Examples


There are a large number of preferences available that work on different levels of the Spotfire application. Many of the general preferences are located under the expandable group "Application" on the Preferences tab in Administration Manager. Below are a few examples of how you can edit some particular preferences described. The steps for editing other preferences are quite similar. 

To Allow for Additional URI Schemes in Links:

Different types of links can be used in many places inside Spotfire. For example, in the table visualization, the text area, in labels or tooltips, etc. If your company needs to link to something other than http-addresses you can modify two preferences according to the following:

  1. Select Tools >  Administration Manager.

  2. Go to the Preferences tab.

  3. In the Selected group list, click the group for which to set the preferences.

  4. In the Preferences list to the right, click the plus sign next to Application to expand the group.

  5. Click ApplicationPreferences.

  6. Click Edit.

  7. Select the Allow Additional Uri Schemes row and click the downwards pointing arrow.

  8. Select True from the drop-down list.

    Comment: The default setting is False. Note that if Allow Additional Uri Schemes is set to True and Additional Uri Schemes is left empty, then all URI schemes are allowed.

  9. Select the Additional Uri Schemes row and click on the button with three dots.

    Response: The String Collection Editor is displayed.

  10. Add a list of the URI schemes you want to allow, one scheme per row, and click OK.

    Comment: If Additional Uri Schemes is non-empty, then the URI scheme must be included in Additional Uri Schemes to be allowed.

To store a fixed size configuration in the preferences:

You can store a specific size in the preferences to have it show up like any other presets in the Visualization area size drop-down list of the Document Properties dialog.

  1. Select Tools >  Administration Manager.

  2. Go to the Preferences tab.

  3. In the Selected group list, click the group for which to set the preferences.

  4. In the Preferences list to the right, click the plus sign next to Application to expand the group.

  5. Click ApplicationPreferences.

  6. Click Edit.

  7. Click Fixed Visualization Area Sizes.

    Response: A small button is displayed to the right of the preference.

  8. Click the button.

    Response: The String Collection Editor is displayed.

  9. Enter the desired fixed size configurations and click OK.
