Accessing Data from TIBCO Data Virtualization

With Spotfire, you can connect to, access, and analyze your data from TIBCO Data Virtualization (TDV). In this article, you learn how to use Spotfire’s built-in data connector for TDV. With the TDV connector, you can create a data connection to any TDV server that you have access to.

Another option to access your TDV data from Spotfire is to configure the TDV integration. The TDV integration allows you to search and view data from one specific TDV server directly in the Files and Data flyout.

What is TDV?

TIBCO® Data Virtualization (TDV) is a software that joins multiple, diverse data sources in real-time. Instead of copying data into a data warehouse, the software brings the data together in one virtual place, where you can easily tailor it to your needs and create logical views. For a more detailed description of TDV, see What is data virtualization?.

What is required to connect to TDV?

Preparations

Before you start, read the System requirements for Spotfire Connectors to make sure that the TDV data source that you want to connect to is compatible with your version of Spotfire.

Connecting to TDV

When you want to connect to a TDV data source in Spotfire, you can either open and reuse a connection that is shared in your Spotfire library, or you can create a new connection to add data to your analysis.

Adding data from an existing connection to TDV

If you want to add data from an existing connection or connection data source that is shared in your Spotfire library, you can use the search function in the Files and data flyout to quickly find the data you are looking for.

Use the search phrase 'connector:"TIBCO Data Virtualization"' to find all shared connections that were created with the TDV connector. For more detailed instructions, see How to work with Data Connections and their Data Sources in the Library.

Creating a new connection to TDV

You can configure your connection so that you can add data to your analysis, and share the connection in the library, for easy access to the selected data for other users on your team.

  1. On the authoring bar, click Files and data .

  2. In the Files and data flyout, click Connect to.

  3. In the list of connectors, click TIBCO Data Virtualization.

  4. In the TIBCO Data Virtualization flyout, click New connection.

  5. In the TIBCO Data Virtualization Connection dialog, enter the information for connecting to your TIBCO Data Virtualization server. Then click Connect.

  6. In the Views in Connection dialog, select the data that you want to include in the connection, then click OK.

  7. The final step is a summary view of the data that you are about to add to your analysis, and how the data will be added. Make any changes that you want, and then click OK to confirm and add the data to the analysis.

Using an identity provider for single sign-on with TDV

The connector for TDV supports using an identity provider for authentication. This enables a convenient log-in experience in data connections and external libraries. If you also use the same identity provider for authentication on your Spotfire Server, you can set up a full single sign-on experience between Spotfire and TDV.

To learn about the necessary configurations, see Single sign-on for connectors with an identity provider (OAuth2).
