Connecting to Salesforce with Federated Authentication

You can use federated authentication to connect to Salesforce, using your own custom domain. This enables you to use your organization’s identity provider to connect to Salesforce.

To connect to Salesforce with federated authentication:

Prerequisites: Your organization must be using an identity provider that is configured for Salesforce.

  1. Click Files and data .

  2. In the Files and data flyout, click Connect to.

  3. In the list of connectors, click Salesforce.

  4. In the Salesforce flyout, click New connection.

  5. In the Salesforce Connection dialog, select the authentication method Log in with Salesforce….

  6. In the Salesforce login form in your web browser, click Use Custom Domain.

  7. Enter your organization’s custom domain name, and then click Continue.

  8. Result: You are redirected to log in with your organization’s identity provider login form.

Note: If the login form of your organization’s identity provider does not provide the option to switch to a different user account, than the one that is currently logged in for the browser session, the currently logged in user account will be used. To switch user account, you must actively log out with your identity provider.

Federated authentication with Salesforce in Spotfire web clients

If you want to use the authentication method Log in with Salesforce, which is required to use federated authentication with your own custom domain, in the Spotfire web clients, your Spotfire administrator must first make certain configurations. If the Log in with Salesforce option is disabled in Spotfire web clients, see the topic Configuring the Salesforce Connector for Web Clients.

Note: The configurations described above are not required for the Spotfire® Cloud web clients.
