Adding or editing a text area

You can add a simple text area just to provide information about the analysis, but you can also add a lot of functionality to the text area.

About this task

See Text area for a description of functionality you can add. For information about actions and scripts in text areas, see Adding actions to a text area and Adding a script action to a text area or visualization item.

Before you begin

Text areas must be authored in the installed client.

Procedure

  1. On the authoring bar, click Visualization types to open the flyout.
  2. Drag the Text area visualization type to the desired position on the analysis page.
A blank text area is created.
  3. On the text area title bar, click Edit Text Area .
You can also right-click the text area and select Edit Text Area from the pop-up menu.
  4. In the Edit Text Area dialog you can type text, or add any type of dynamic controls by clicking the corresponding button on the text area toolbar.
Comment: See Edit text area toolbar for more information about the available tools. See Adding a property control to a text area and Adding a dynamic item to a text area for more details about these controls and items. Double-clicking a control in the Edit Text Area dialog opens a dialog for editing the control. You can also right-click in the dialog to edit or format added controls, as well as use the usual Cut/Copy/Paste/Delete commands.
Note: When working with calculated values, make sure you do not unintentionally override any font style settings that have been defined in a rule when changing the font, style or size. If you apply a font style (Bold and Italic) from the Format Control dialog, it will be added to the calculated value on top of any font style included in a rule for the calculated value. For example, if you select the check box for Bold in the Format Control dialog, then the calculated value will always be shown as bold. A rule stating that the value should be shown in bold only if the value is greater than a certain value will have no effect, because the calculated value is already bold.
  5. Click Save when you are finished.
  6. Click Close in the upper-right corner to exit the Edit Text Area dialog.

Results

The text area is updated in the analysis.
