Changing the formatting in visualizations

The formatting defines how the data will be presented. For example, depending on how you format a date column, the dates therein can be shown as "01/12/2022" or "January 12th, 2022".

Before you begin

You can update formatting in visualizations using any client if the visualization properties panel is enabled. If not, you must use the visualization properties dialog (Formatting page) in the installed client to update visualization-specific formatting.

About this task

If you change the formatting of a column in the Data in analysis flyout, you update the default formatting used in all places where the column content is shown.

However, you can also specify a particular formatting on an axis in a certain visualization. In this case, the formatting only affects the selected axis.

Procedure

  1. In the visualization properties, locate the section representing the axis of interest (for example, X-axis, Y-axis, Category Axis or Value Axis).
This images shows an example of the visualization properties panel for a scatter plot X-axis, with a numeric column specified.

  2. Under Format as, change the formatting to the desired type.
For some options, you can click on the settings button to further specify the formatting as desired. See Formatting details for more information about the different options and available settings.
