Accessing data from TIBCO Data Virtualization
With Spotfire, you can connect to, access, and analyze your data from TIBCO Data Virtualization. In this article, you learn how to use Spotfire's built-in data connector for TIBCO Data Virtualization. With the connector, you can create a data connection to any TIBCO Data Virtualization server that you have access to.
What is TIBCO Data Virtualization?
TIBCO® Data Virtualization (TDV) is a software that joins multiple, diverse data sources in real-time. Instead of copying data into a data warehouse, the software brings the data together in one virtual place, where you can easily tailor it to your needs and create logical views.
Before you begin
Connecting to TDV
When you want to connect to a TDV data source in Spotfire, you can either open and reuse a connection that is shared in your Spotfire library, or you can create a new connection to add data to your analysis.
- Connector for TIBCO Data Virtualization — Features and settings
You can connect to and access data from TIBCO Data Virtualization. On this page, you can find information about the capabilities, available settings, and things to keep in mind when you work with data connections to TIBCO Data Virtualization. - Configuring an external library for TIBCO Data Virtualization
To be able to search and browse your TIBCO Data Virtualization (TDV) data directly in the Files and Data flyout, you must configure your TDV integration. This article describes how you do this by setting theExternal libraryconfigurations preference in the Administration Manager. - Adding data from a TIBCO Data Virtualization external library
If you have added your TIBCO Data Virtualization (TDV) server as an external library in Spotfire, you can search and view data from TDV directly in the Files and Data flyout.
Accessing data from TDV as an external library
A convenient way to access your TDV data from Spotfire is to add your TDV server as an external library. Then you can access your data directly in the Files and data flyout.

Adding data from an existing connection to TDV
About this task
If you want to add data from an existing connection or connection data source that is shared in your Spotfire library, you can use the search function in the Files and data flyout to quickly find the data you are looking for.
Use the search phrase 'connector:"TIBCO Data
Virtualization"' to find all shared connections that were created with
the TDV connector.
Creating a new connection to TDV
Before you begin
To create a new data connection to TDV, you must use an installed client.
About this task
When you create a new data connection, you can select just the data you want to analyze. Then you can share the connection in the library, for easy access to the selected data.
Procedure
-
On the authoring bar, click
Files and data
.
- In the Files and data flyout, click Connect to.
- In the list of connectors, click TIBCO Data Virtualization.
- In the TIBCO Data Virtualization flyout, click New connection.
- In the TIBCO Data Virtualization Connection dialog, enter the information for connecting to your TIBCO Data Virtualization server. Then click Connect.
- In the Views in Connection dialog, select the data that you want to include in the connection, then click OK.
- The final step is a summary view of the data that you are about to add to your analysis, and how the data will be added. Make any changes that you want, and then click OK to confirm and add the data to the analysis.
Using an identity provider for single sign-on with TDV
About this task
The connector for TDV supports using an identity provider for authentication. This enables a convenient log-in experience in data connections and external libraries. If you also use the same identity provider for authentication on your Spotfire Server, you can set up a full single sign-on experience between Spotfire and TDV.
To learn about the necessary configurations, see Single sign-on with an identity provider (OAuth2) for connectors.
