Spotfire® User Guide

Copying and pasting data, pages or visualizations

When using the installed client, you can copy data, pages or visualizations from Spotfire to use within Spotfire, or, in some cases, in other applications. You can add content by pasting what is currently available on the clipboard.

Note: The functionality described here can only be authored using the installed Spotfire client.

Copy

On the menu bar, Edit > Copy copies information about the marked items in the active visualization. The copied information varies depending on the visualization type, but consists of information that uniquely identifies an item in that type of visualization. In most visualizations you can see which information will be copied by looking at the tooltip of a marked item. In a table visualization, the values in the entire marked row are copied, along with the column names. If no items are marked in the active visualization, this option will not be available.

Edit > Copy special includes different options which are shown below.

  • Data for all items is available for tables, cross tables, and summary tables. Copies all the data shown in the active visualization.
  • Data for marked items copies information about the marked items in the active visualization. The copied information varies depending on the visualization type, but consists of information that uniquely identifies an item in that type of visualization. • All rows copies all the rows from the data table the active visualization is based on. If the visualization uses data from many data tables, data is copied from the main data table. This option is not applicable in visualizations that are based on in-database data tables.
  • Filtered rows copies the underlying rows for the items that have not been filtered out from the active visualization. This option is not applicable in visualizations that are based on in-database data tables.
Note: Only available if items have been filtered out in the visualization.
  • Marked rows copies the underlying rows for the items that are marked in the active visualization. Note that rows that were first marked and then filtered out will also be copied. This option is not applicable in visualizations that are based on in-database data tables.
Note: Only available if items have been marked in the visualization.
  • Active page copies the active page so that the page structure can be reused in this or another Spotfire instance.
Note: No data is included when the page is copied to a new instance of Spotfire. If the new data does not match the previously used data, you must specify the data tables and columns to use manually.
Tip: You can also use drag-and-drop to copy pages between two open instances of Spotfire.

Paste

To add data that is currently on the clipboard as a new data table, go to the menu bar and click Edit > Paste. You can also add copied data from the Files and data flyout, where you have more control of how the data is added. In the flyout, click Other > Paste data from clipboard.

When pasting a copied page it is added after the active page in the current analysis.
