Editing properties for a library item

If you have authoring rights and permission to edit items in a specific library folder, you can edit the properties for an item directly from the library view in the Files and data flyout when using the installed client.

About this task

Tip: You can also edit properties applicable to an analysis from File > Document properties or from the Library Administration tool. See also Editing properties for an analysis.

Before you begin

  • The Edit Properties dialog is only available in the installed client.
  • To edit the properties of an item you must have Browse + Access + Modify permissions to the folder it is placed in.

Procedure

  1. On the authoring bar, click Files and data .
  2. Use search or browse to the library item of interest under Spotfire library.
  3. For the library item of interest, use the menu to the right (where the tooltip says Click for options), and select Edit properties.
  4. In the Edit Properties dialog, update the properties for the library item and click OK when you are done.
    • General – Update the name, description or keywords. The following characters are not accepted in titles: \ / : * ? " < > | Keywords are separated by a semicolon.
    • Document – Specify settings applicable to web client users, bookmarks and the library in general. For more information, see Using personalized views for all web client users, Bookmarks, Collaborating using conversations and Saving an analysis.
    • Geocoding – This tab is only applicable for SBDF data files saved in the library, and only of interest if the data contains some type of geographic information which can be used to position data on a map. It lets you specify that a table should be used as a geocoding table, and whether to allow automatic download. It also lets you specify some geocoding properties.
    • Properties – This tab lists properties available for the library item. Which properties are available depends on the item type and which properties have been specified for the item. For example, for an analysis file you can get information about the number of data tables, pages, document node counts, and so on, whereas for a data file you are limited to the basic library properties such as the size, created/modified dates, and similar.

The properties can sometimes be useful for estimating resource consumption for analyses in the library. Note that most of the numbers are approximations. The values of the properties are updated when an analysis is saved.

See Document properties, column properties and data table properties for more information about custom properties and how to update them.
