Filtering data using the Filters panel

In your analysis, you can filter to data in which you are particularly interested and filter out the rest. The filtering can be handled from the Filters panel.

About this task

For more information, see Filtering data.
Note: When you work with in-database data tables, the Filters panel will initially be empty. If this is the case, you must create the filters you want to use.

To create a filter for a column in an in-database data table, move the cursor over the column in the Data in analysis flyout, and click Show filter , then Click to create a filter. When working with cube data it is not possible to create filters for measures or sets, only for dimension columns.

In the Filters panel, all filters in a data table can be viewed at the same time, and you can use the filters directly to limit the data to visualize.

Procedure

  1. If the Filters panel is not visible, click Filters on the menu bar or select View > Filters.
In the panel, you find filters associated with the columns in your data table. The example below shows two types of filters, check box filters and range filters.

  2. Locate the column containing the values you want to filter out.
  3. Use its filter to specify which column values to keep and which values to filter out.
An example of a filtered column is shown below.

  4. Repeat from step 2 to filter data in another column.
Note: Any filtering action in the Filters panel also updates the filters in the Data in analysis flyout and any filters in a text area.
Tip: If you have more than one data table in the analysis, the filters from one data table are always grouped within a single data table group, which can be expanded or collapsed in the filters panel.

Filters cannot be moved from one data table group to another. However, if the data tables are configured with a relation, you can define how Filtering in related data tables should work from the filters panel.

Results

The data is filtered.

The filters in the Filters panel can be organized just as you please, and also hidden. If the analysis holds different filtering schemes, the top of the Filters panel is where you select which filtering scheme to apply on the page.

The Filters panel can be shown as a popover or a docked panel, see Panels and popovers for more information. The panel will open in the same mode as when last used when hidden and shown again. The visibility of the panel is controlled per page, and the Filters visibility of new pages is inherited from the active page.
