Managing users
You can manage users by changing passwords, including users in groups, and viewing enabled features for users.
Viewing which groups a member belongs to
A user can be a member of one or many groups. Since a group can be a member of another group, hierarchies of groups can be built. A user who is an explicit member of a group is also, by inheritance, a member of that group's parent groups.
Procedure
Including a user in a group
You can assign a user to be a member of a group from the Users tab, but it is easier to configure which users should be members of a group from the Groups tab.
Procedure
- Enter a search expression in the search field and click Search to find the user you want.
- Select the user from the list below.
- On the Properties tab, click Edit next to the Member of groups field, in which all the groups the selected user is a member of is listed.
- The Available groups list shows all the groups on the server. You can sort these either alphabetically or hierarchically if you prefer a better view of which groups are members of which other groups.
- Select a group that you want the user to be a member of, and click Add. The group is shown in the User is a member of groups list.
- Click OK when done.
Changing a username
Changing a username is only possible if the Spotfire Server is set up to use database authentication, that is, if the list of Spotfire users is residing on the server only. If the Spotfire Server is configured to connect to a company's Windows user directory then usernames are handled in that context.
Procedure
- Enter a search expression in the search field and click Search to find the user you want.
- Select the user from the list below.
- On the Properties tab, the username is shown. Click Rename next to the field.
- Enter a new name in the Change display name for 'user' dialog and click OK.
Changing a password
Changing the password for a user is only possible if the Spotfire Server is set up to use database authentication, that is, if the list of Spotfire users is residing on the server only. If the Spotfire Server is configured to connect to a company's Windows user directory, then user passwords are handled in that context.
Procedure
- Enter a search expression in the search field and click Search to find the user you want.
- Select the user from the list below.
- On the Properties tab, there is a field called Password. Click Change Password next to the field.
- Enter the new password in both the fields in the Change password for 'user' dialog and click OK.
