Shape collections

A shape collection is a group of image files that can be used as marker shapes in an analysis.

They are packaged together making it easy to share and reuse the shapes in your analyses. In Spotfire, there are many shapes available by default but sometimes you might need more shapes or shapes that are more specific to your industry. Shape collections are used and created from the shape picker in the scatter plot or the marker layer in a map chart.

Creating a shape collection

A shape collection is created by uploading or reusing previously uploaded image files and saving the collection to the Spotfire library or locally in your installed Spotfire client. A shape collection saved in the library can be accessed and used by others. A personal collection is only available to you.

Sharing shape collections with others

  • It can be saved in the library.

Usually, a shape collection is saved to the library. Users can browse and search the library for collections. It can also be pinned to the shape picker for easy access.

  • It can be saved as a file to disk (as a .dxpshapes file).

The saved files can be shared on public websites such as the Spotfire Community, or attached to emails.

Version handling

If a shape collection is resaved to the Spotfire library, all instances of the collection are updated in all analyses where it is used.
