Running Multiple Components On One Engine

When running multiple Nodes or Deployment Managers on a single engine (that is running multiple cells), you must configure the following outlined components.

Running Multiple Deployment Manager Cells

You can run multiple Deployment Manager Cells simultaneously under a Silver Fabric environment for reasons such as independent cell level administration, isolation of hardware or software failure, and so on. An engine host corresponds to a Node in single Deployment Manager environment. But, supporting multiple Cells requires a capability for an engine to host more than one Node. One node agent server is started per Node. Each node agent and managed server uses distinct set of ports to avoid conflicts.

Ensure that you configure the following items:

  • Base value for the ports using relevant Runtime Context Variables in enabler for WebSphere Application Server.
  • Override the WAS_ROOT_WORK_DIR variable in your managed Application Server components to specify a unique runtime directory per Node, such that, when multiple Nodes are configured and active on the same host they use distinct runtime directories.
