SAP BW

On this page, you find information about downloading and installing the drivers you need to be able connect to data sources with the connector for SAP BW in Spotfire.

Preparations

Before downloading and installing any driver software for use with this connector, read the system requirements for the connector for your version of Spotfire. Make sure that your database version and driver version is supported in your version of Spotfire.

Spotfire® Connectors System Requirements

Remember that additional requirements and third party dependencies might apply for using the drivers. Refer to the official documentation from the driver vendor for more information.

You can use the Spotfire Connector for SAP BW to connect to the following data source types:

To use the SAP BW connector, you must install one of the following drivers on your computer:

It is recommended to use the BAPI driver, version 7.50 (SAP NetWeaver RFC SDK 7.50).

Prerequisites: You must be a registered SAP user to download the driver files. Contact your SAP account manager to gain access to this driver.

Download the appropriate installation files for your system from the Download Software area of the SAP Support Portal:

Note: When you obtain third-party software or services, it is your responsibility to ensure you understand the license terms associated with such third-party software or services and comply with such terms.

Note: When you install the driver on computers that run Web Player or Automation Services services, you must use system variables.

Important: Kerberos authentication for SAP BW is supported on Spotfire version 10.7 and later, and on Spotfire version 10.3 with the latest hotfix applied.

If you want to use SSO with Kerberos, you must make additional configurations on the computer running the Spotfire client. You must also make these configurations on computers running Automation Services or Web Player services.

Preparations

Download the following file from SAP:

sapcrypto.dll (version 8.5.25 or later)

Place the file sapcrypto.dll in a folder on your computer.
Create the following system environment variable:
Name: SPOTFIRE_SNC_LIB
Value: <path to sapcrypto.dll>
For example: C:\nwrfcsdk\sapcrypto.dll

Note: To use Kerberos authentication in web clients and Automation Services, remember that you must have configured the connector in the service configuration. You must set the WebAuthenticationMode setting for the SapBwAdapter to Kerberos.

Kerberos with constrained delegation for SAP BW on Spotfire web clients

To use Kerberos with constrained delegation for SAP BW in Spotfire web clients, you must make additional configurations.

Environment variable

On the computers running the web player service or Automation Services service, add the following to the PATH system environment variable.
Value: <path to the lib directory in the NWRFC installation folder>
For example: C:\nwrfcsdk\lib

Service configuration

Export and edit the service configuration for your Automation Services and web player services. See Manually editing the service configuration files.
Open the file Spotfire.Dxp.Worker.Host.exe.config in a text editor.
Make sure the WebAuthenticationMode setting for the Sap BW connector is set to Kerberos:
<adapter name="Spotfire.SapBwAdapter" mode="Kerberos"/>
Under Spotfire.Dxp.Data.Adapters.SapBw.Properties.Settings, set the value of the setting ConstrainedKerberos to True:

  </setting>
Save your changes. Then import the service configuration, by following the instructions in the help topic linked above.

If you want to use SSO with Kerberos for SAP BW on a Spotfire web client, you must make additional configurations, to make sure Kerberos is run in client mode. When you have completed the steps described above to install sapcrypto.dll for Spotfire, make sure you configure it according to SAP instructions.

To use the SAP BW connector, you must install the SAP BW OLE DB for OLAP Provider (ODBO driver) on your computer.

The SQP BW OLE DB for OLAP Provider driver can be downloaded, by registered users, from the SAP Software Download Center.

Note: You must be a registered SAP user to download the driver. Contact your SAP account manager to gain access to this driver.
