Spotfire® Server and Environment - Installation and Administration

Environment license types

In addition to the license models, Spotfire also provides license types. These license types specify the type of environment where named users can use the products for which they hold licenses.

The license types are designated as either ProdPlus or Production/Non-Production.

ProdPlus

For any Spotfire product licensed under the named-user model, each unit of ProdPlus includes one named user who can use the product in any environment at any time.
Note: A server named-user license is required, even in the unlikely case that a user does not access the server.

Production/Non-production

For any Spotfire product licensed under the named-user model, each unit of Production/Non-Production includes one named user, who can use either a production environment or a non-production environment, but not both.

Example
Consider that you have 6 named-user licenses for Spotfire Analyst and Spotfire Server. You want to add a Spotfire Server deployment to create an environment just for test purposes, not for production.
  • If you have the ProdPlus license type, you are good to go, because ProdPlus license types specify connecting to any environment, whether it is production or test, or both.
  • If you have the Production/Non-Production license type (which, up to this point, you have been using only for production), then you must purchase additional licenses for named users to access the new test (non-production) environment.

The following illustration shows how such a scenario might be considered, with different users needing different license types.

License types for developers

A developer creating Spotfire extensions or mods can have a ProdPlus-type named-user license and work in either a production or a non-production environment.

A developer creating Spotfire extensions or mods can have a Non-Production type named-user license, but If that developer needs access to the production environment, then they need an additional Production environment type named-user license.
