Characteristics: Characteristic Properties
Right-click on a folder in the tree view, and select New Characteristic, or select an already-existing characteristic to display the characteristics options in the properties page.
Type.
From the Type drop-down list, select the characteristic type. The list contains the three general types of data: Variable, Attribute, and Aggregated Attribute.
- Variable
- Variable data are aspects of the objects that are measured on a continuous numeric scale.
- Attribute
- Attribute data are the collection of the frequencies of qualitative characteristics of the objects. Usually, attribute data tracks the frequencies of defects or defective objects.
- Aggregated Attribute
- Aggregated Attribute data specify an aggregated line plot, where each plot point is computed as the mean of k consecutive observations (where k is the Span).
- Chart type
- From the Chart type drop-down list, select the type of chart that you want to use to monitor this characteristic in Statistica. Note. The selection of the chart type will affect options on subsequent properties page views. For example, with variable data, the selection of an X and MR chart dictates that sample size for this characteristic is 1. Check reasonable values on data entry. If you selected Variable as the characteristic Type, options are displayed for specifying reasonable input values. The Data Entry application has the ability to perform on-line range checking for the entered measurements. This checking is useful to help prevent data entry errors. To set up the on-line range checking for this characteristic, select the Check reasonable values on data entry check box.
- Low/High
- Enter the reasonable Low and High values in the respective boxes.
System View Placement.
- Attach
- Click the Attach button to display the Select a folder dialog box. In this dialog box, select the folder to which you want to attach the characteristic. Click the OK button to attach the Characteristic and return to the characteristic options. Detach. Click the Detach button to detach a characteristic from its associated folder. Locate. Click the Locate button to cause the System View folder in the tree view associated with the selected characteristic to flash briefly to aid the user in locating it.
