Design & Analysis of Experiments with Three-Level Factors - Design Experiment Tab

Select the Design experiment tab of the Design & Analysis of Experiments with Three-Level Factors dialog to access options to generate Box-Behnken designs as well as blocked 3(k-p) full and fractional factorial designs as enumerated by Connor and Zelen (see McLean and Anderson, 1984) for the National Bureau of Standards of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Note that Statistica first generates a standard 3(k-p) or Box-Behnken design; the Design of an Experiment with Three-Level Factors dialog provides numerous options for enhancing the basic design, e.g., by adding center points, replications, etc.

Factorial designs
Select the Factorial designs option button to select a full or fractional factorial 3(k-p) design, with or without blocks. These are the standard designs enumerated by Connor and Zelen (see McLean and Anderson, 1984) for the National Bureau of Standards; they are also discussed in the Introductory Overview section.
Box-Behnken designs
Select the Box-Behnken designs option button to select a standard Box-Behnken design. Box-Behnken designs (Box and Behnken, 1960; see also Box and Draper, 1984) do not have simple design generators (they are constructed by combining two-level factorial designs with incomplete block designs), and have complex confounding of interaction. However, the designs are economical and therefore particularly useful when it is expensive to perform many experimental runs (see also the Introductory Overview).
Factors/blocks/runs
The Factors/blocks/runs box shows the available standard designs for the currently specified number of factors. For example, design 7/3/81 is a design for 7 factors, with 3 blocks, in 81 runs. To select a design, click on it, and then click the OK button (or double-click on the respective design in this box) to review that design in the Design of an Experiment with Three-Level Factors dialog. Note that only one Factors/blocks/runs box is available at any time. To select factors/blocks/runs for a standard three-level factorial design, click the Factorial design option button above. Click the Box-Behnken designs option button if you want to select a standard Box-Behnken design.
