Plot: Scatterplot

These options are available on the Scatterplot tab of the Graph Options dialog box.

Use these options to select and further refine the type of scatterplot you want to plot in your graph. You can also choose to include the multiple correlation and related statistics for the linear regression treating the variables plotted on the x- and y-axes as the predictors, and the z variable as the dependent variable.

Plot

Use the Plot drop-down box to select the plot to which you want to make changes. If you have several plots in one graph, you assign names to each plot using the Name field on the Plot: General tab.

Type

Select the type of scatterplot (Regular, Bubble plot, Selected points, Quantile scatterplot, or Frequency plot) from the Type drop-box that you want to plot on your graph. These plot types are also described in the 2D Scatterplot Advanced tab topic.

Statistics

Click the Statistics button to display the Statistics dialog box for scatterplots, in which you can select a variety of statistics that will be included in your graph. Note that if you do select statistic(s) to include in your graph, the Add Legend dialog box will also be displayed, which is used to select where and how to attach the statistic(s) to the graph.

Bag plot options

Click this button to display the Bag Plot Options dialog box. Note that this button is available only for bag plots.

Selected subsets

The options in the Selected subsets group box are used to select a method of categorization. If the selected Type is Selected points, you can select a method (Integer mode, Unique values, Categories, Boundaries, Codes, or Multiple subsets) to define the manner in which the values in the selected categorization variable will be used to determine the categories in the scatterplot. Methods for categorizing values are discussed in detail in Methods of Categorization.

Change Variable/Specify Boundaries/Specify Codes/Specify Subsets

Note that the name of this button changes depending on the Interval option button that is selected. Click the Change Variable button to display a standard variable selection dialog box, which is used to change the selection of the grouping variable to which the Intervals options apply. Click the Specify Boundaries/Codes/Subsets button to display various dialog boxes in which you enter the boundaries, codes, or subsets that are used to create user-defined categories.

Frequencies

The options in the Frequencies group box are used to select a method of categorization. If the selected Type is Frequency plot, you can select a method (Integer mode, Categories, Boundaries, or Codes) to define the manner in which the values in the variable will be used to determine the frequencies for the plot. The methods for determining the categories for which frequencies are computed are equivalent to the categorization methods discussed in detail in the Methods of Categorization topic.

Properties

The options in the Properties group are used to specify various aspects of the components of the scatterplot.

Selected subsets value format

If the selected Type is Selected points, then the Selected subsets value format button is used to control the display of legends defining the categories used in the plot. Click this button to display the Value Format dialog box, from which you can choose the desired format for display of subsets defined by categorization.

Frequencies value format

If the selected Type is Frequency plot, then the Frequencies value format button is used to control the display of legends defining the frequencies used in the plot. Click on this button to display the Value Format dialog box, from which you can choose the desired format for display of subsets defined by categorization.

Bubble plot properties

The options in this group box become available when Bubble plot is selected in the Type drop-down list.

Max. point size.

Enter the maximum point size you want the bubble plot to represent.

Growth mode

Select either Linear or Logarithmic as the growth mode for the bubble plot.
