PI Timed Data

Use the options in this dialog box to return a data set that contains the interpolated values from the archive at the passed time stamps. The timed data search operates on the current data set (spreadsheet), and allows you to create a subset of the tags in the current data set.

Note: You must have version 1.3.1 or greater of PI SDK in order to use this option.

On the Ribbon bar, select the PI tab > Data group > Timed to display the Timed Data dialog box.

You can also select the Home tab > File group. Click the Open arrow. From the Open External Data > PI submenu, select Timed Data to display the Timed Data dialog box.

To begin:

  1. Click the PI Logon button to display the PI Connection Manager.
  2. Log on to the PI server.
  3. Click the Tag Search button to display the Tag Search dialog. (The Tag Search dialog is an OSISoft UI component and is outside the scope of this documentation)

Search Tags

After you have completed the tag search, the tags you have selected will be returned to this list box. Click OK to query the PI database. Values will be returned for the tags in the box.

Load

Click the Load button to display the Search Tags list.

Save

Click the Save button to display the Save Tag Selections dialog box, where you can save the Search Tags list in a .ini file for easy retrieval.

OK

Click OK button to begin the specified search.

Cancel

Click Cancel button to close this dialog box without conducting the specified search.

Time Variable

Click to display a standard variable selection dialog box, which is used to select the time variable for the search.

Filter Expr [opt]

Enter an (optional) filter expression in this field (refer to your PI documentation for details about filtering). Specify whether or not to show filtered items in the resulting data set with a filter status.

Filter Type [opt]

Select from one of three (optional) filter types:

Show Filtered State

Select to return all values to the data set. Values that fail the filter criteria (see Filter Expr, above) are set to a filtered state.

Remove Filtered

Select to return only values that pass the filter criteria to the data set.

Use Expression times

Select to return values within the Begin and End Dates to the data set.

Discrete Times

When you select this check box, search returns the actual times of the recorded values rather than the specified times.

New spreadsheet

Select this check box to place the results from this query in a new spreadsheet. When you clear this check box, search will add the query results (as new variables) to the current spreadsheet.

Note: If Merge Results is also selected, the new spreadsheet will only have one timestamp variable regardless of the number of tags searched.

Use Filter

Select this check box to filter the data using the filter expression entered in the Filter Expr [opt] field described above.

Choices for this option:

Include all data in the resulting spreadsheet with a column indicating whether the data passed or failed the filtering criteria by selecting Show Filtered State.

Exclude data that doesn't meet the filtering criteria by selecting Remove Filtered.

Metadata Var

Select this check box to include a metadata variable in the resulting data set. This variable will indicate whether the data are good or bad. When this option is cleared, bad data are automatically filtered (excluded) from the resulting spreadsheet.

PI Logon

Click this button to display the PI Connection Manager and log on to the PI database.

Tag Search

Click this button to display the Tag Search dialog box, which is used to conduct a basic, advanced, or alias search. The results of this search will be used to populate the Search Tags list box.

Batch Search

Click this button to display the Batch Search dialog box, which is used to query the PI SDK server, using the PI batch search capability to automatically select sets of tags and date ranges from previously defined batch data in the PI system and to select one or many batches from a list.
