Creating a New Spreadsheet Layout

Follow these instructions to create a new spreadsheet layout.

Ribbon bar. Select the Format tab. In the Spreadsheet group, click Layouts to display the Spreadsheet Layouts dialog box.

Classic menus. From the Format menu, select Spreadsheet to display the Spreadsheet Layouts dialog box.

Procedure

  1. In the Spreadsheet Layouts dialog box, click the New button to display the Spreadsheet Layout Name dialog box.
  2. Type a name in the Name box.
  3. Click OK to display the Edit Spreadsheet Layout dialog box. In the Formats group, a default Format 1 is displayed. This first format is a global format that affects all areas of the spreadsheet.
  4. Click the New button to display the New Style dialog box. Enter a name and click OK.
  5. The Edit Format dialog box is displayed; select any formatting options you want to associate with the additional format.
  6. Click OK to accept the settings of the additional format and return to the Edit Spreadsheet Layout dialog box.
  7. The Edit Spreadsheet Layout dialog box is used to specify where you want to apply your additional format. For instance, you can apply the format only to the Case Header and Variable Header of the active spreadsheet. To do this, select the new format in the Formats group. Then, select only the Case Header and Variable Header check boxes in the Areas of Spreadsheet affected by format group.
  8. You can add additional formats to the spreadsheet layout as necessary by clicking the New button in the Formats group. Click Edit to change the formatting options associated with the selected format. You can delete a format from the spreadsheet layout by clicking the Delete button. Note that the most recent format overlays the previously created formats, creating an all-encompassing spreadsheet layout.
  9. When you are satisfied with the appearance of your spreadsheet layout, click OK.
  10. Click Close in the Spreadsheet Layout Manager dialog box to return to the active spreadsheet.
