Descriptive Statistics - Categ. Plots tab
In the Descriptive Statistics dialog box, select the Categ. plots tab to access options to visualize the breakdown of a selection of the variables by one, two, or three categorical variables.
More complex breakdown analyses and graphs are available via Breakdown & one-way ANOVA.
Categorized box & whisker plots
Click this button to produce a cascade of categorized box and whisker plots for the selected variables, one plot per selected variable.
You are first prompted to select up to three categorical variables via a variable selection dialog box. The Select codes for the grouping variables dialog box is displayed next, in which you specify the specific groups of each of the categorical variables for which you want graphs to be produced. Then, the Box-Whisker Type dialog box is displayed, in which you select the type of box & whisker plot to be produced. Finally, for each selected variable (via the Variables button), Statistica produces a box and whisker plot broken down (categorized) by the categorical variables.
Categorized means (interaction) plots
Click this button to produce a standard interaction plot of means by one, two, or three categorical variables.
You are first prompted to select up to three categorical variables via a variable selection dialog box. The Select codes for the grouping variables dialog box is displayed next, in which you specify the specific groups of each of your categorical variables for which you want graphs to be produced. Finally, the interaction plot is produced. Overall, the interaction plot can show the means broken down by three categories (cascades of interaction plots to show higher-way interactions can be produced via Breakdown & one-way ANOVA. If one (dependent) variable was selected via the Variables option, you can specify up to three categorization variables. If more than one variable was selected, up to two categorization variables can be selected; the different (dependent) variables are represented by different line patterns (colors) in the graph.
Confidence interval
The default value is 95%, but you can specify another confidence interval for the Categorized means (interaction) plots here.
Categorized histograms
Click this button to produce a cascade of categorized histograms for the selected variables, one plot per selected variable.
You are first prompted to select up to two categorical variables via a variable selection dialog box. The Select codes for the grouping variables dialog box is displayed next, in which you specify the specific groups of each of your categorical variables for which you want graphs to be produced. Finally, for each selected variable (via the Variables button), Statistica produces a histogram, broken down (categorized) by the categorical variables (e.g., separately for males and females for each ethnic group).
Categorized scatterplot
Click this button to produce a cascade of categorized scatterplots for selected pairs of variables, one plot per pair.
You are first prompted via a variable selection dialog box to select two lists of variables (from among those originally selected via the Variables button). Scatterplots are produced for each variable in the first list with each variable in the second list. Next (via another variable selection dialog box) you are prompted to select up to two categorical variables. Then, the Select codes for the grouping variables dialog box is displayed, in which you specify the specific groups of each of your categorical variables for which you want graphs to be produced. Finally, Statistica produces a cascade of scatterplots broken down (categorized) by the specified groups in the categorical variables.
Categorized probability plots
The options in this group box produce a cascade of normal probability plots for the selected grouping variables.
Note that, after clicking any of these buttons, you are first prompted to select up to two categorical variables via a variable selection dialog box. Next, the Select codes for the grouping variables dialog box is displayed, in which you specify the specific groups of each of your categorical variables for which you want graphs to be produced. Finally, the probability plot is produced.
Normal
Click this button to produce a cascade of categorized normal probability plots for the selected variables, one plot per selected variable. For more information on how the standard normal probability plot is constructed, see Normal Probability Plots.
