Case Names Manager

You can access the Case Names Manager dialog box in the following ways:
  • Ribbon bar. Select the Data tab. In the Cases group, click Names to display the Case Names Manager dialog box.
  • Classic menus. On the Data menu, select Case Names Manager to display the Case Names Manager dialog box.
Use these options to perform a variety of formatting changes on case names.
Option Description
Case name length Type the desired maximum number of characters allowed for cases in the Case name length box, or adjust the number with the microscrolls. Note that the case name length you enter in this field pertains to all cases in the spreadsheet.
Case header width Type the number of inches desired for case headers in the Case header width box. Note that the case header width you enter in this box pertains to all cases in the spreadsheet.
Transfer case names Use the options in the Transfer case names group box to transfer the case names to a specified variable or to use the values in a specified variable to create case names.
From Select the From option button to create case name values from a variable.
To Select the To option button to transfer case name values to a variable.
Variable Double-click the Variable box and select a variable from the displayed list of variables in the current spreadsheet. Note that the selection of the From or To radio button determines whether this variable will hold the current case names (transferring case names to the variable) or this variable will be used to create case names (creating case names from a variable).
Editing Case Headers (Names) Case headers cells, located at the left side of the Statistica Spreadsheet, contain header information for each case. Double-click on any case header cell to enter or edit text information. To select a block of case headers (without selecting their respective rows), position the mouse pointer on the left side of the case header cell (when Case States are turned off, i.e., Display Case States is not checked on the View tab or menu, the mouse pointer will be an outlined plus sign ; when Case States are turned on, the mouse pointer will be a magnifying glass ). Hold the mouse button down and drag the pointer through the cells for a continuous block of case headers; press the CTRL key on your keyboard to select a discontinuous block of case headers. To select the entire case row (for editing), click once in the middle or right side of the Case Header (the mouse pointer will be an outlined plus sign with an arrow ). To autofit the Case Headers, double-click on the far-right side of any Case Header (the mouse pointer will be a cross with a double-headed arrow ).
Note: Case Headers are optional and you can choose not to display them [toggle off Case Names on the View tab in the Display group via the Display Options menu (ribbon bar), or toggle off Display Case Names on the View menu (classic menus)]; if they are not displayed, the case numbers are shown. Double-click on any Case Header cell to enter or edit text information.
