Spreadsheet Case Weights

You can access the Spreadsheet Case Weights dialog box in the following ways:
  • Ribbon bar. Select the Tools tab. In the Tools group, click Weight to display the Spreadsheet Case Weights dialog box, which is used to specify case weights for the current spreadsheet.
  • Classic menus. Select Weight from the Tools menu or click the weights toolbar button to display the Spreadsheet Case Weights dialog box, which is used to specify case weights for the current spreadsheet.
You can "adjust" the contribution of individual cases to the outcome of an analysis by "weighting" those cases in proportion to the values of a selected variable. These case weights may or may not be the same case weights that you set when you click the W (weight) button in any analysis or graph dialog box. The case weights that you select here for the spreadsheet can be saved for future use.
Option Description
Weight variable Use the Weight variable box to designate the variable in the spreadsheet that you want to use as the weight variable. You can type in the variable name (or number) that you want to be used or double-click on the variable box (or press F2 on your keyboard) to open the Select Variable dialog box. The Select Variable dialog box displays a list of spreadsheet variables from which you can select the weight variable.

In most types of analyses, the values of the weights are rounded to the nearest integer and used as "multipliers of cases" when the data file is processed. The statistical procedures in some analyses can use fractional weights; in those types of Statistica analyses, specific information about how weights enter into the computations is described in the help windows of the analyses.

Status The options under Status display whether the weighting variable is in use (ON) or not (OFF). Note that this information is also displayed in the Status bar at the bottom of the Statistica application.
OK Click the OK button to set your spreadsheet case weights and return to the spreadsheet.
Cancel Click the Cancel button to return to the current spreadsheet. Any changes you made to the spreadsheet case weights will be disregarded.
