Surface

In the Surface Specifications dialog box, click the General surface options button to display the Surface dialog box. Use these options to customize various properties of 3D surfaces or 2D contours of 3D surfaces. These options can also be selected and changed in the Graph Options dialog box - Surface tab.

Number of cuts for surface

The options available in the Number of cuts for surface group are used to specify the number of cuts for the surface (contour) plot shading.

X:, Y:

The surface will be drawn as a grid ("fish-net") over the plane; the values entered in the X: and Y: fields determine the coarseness of the grid. The larger the number of cuts, the smoother and more detailed will be the surface.

Y=X

You can set a common number of cuts for both the x and y dimensions by selecting the Y=X check box. Clear this option to specify a different number of cuts in the two dimensions.

Contour plot

If you choose to Display the projected contours of the fitted surface (see below), you can select to show just the contour Lines, or to fill out the Areas between the contour lines. If necessary, use the Surface Specifications dialog box to refine the surface and contour colors and levels.

Surface (projected) contour

The options in the Surface (projected) contour group are used to add (or remove) a projected contour plot of the surface at a particular vertical (z-axis) distance from the surface.

Display

Select the Display check box to add the projected contour to the graph; clear this check box to remove it.

Place the surface

Use the Place the surface edit field to enter the distance of the contour projection from the surface; the value entered here will be interpreted in terms of the percentage of the current vertical range (range of z values) of the fitted surface; the projected contour will be shown at the selected percent (of z) below the surface (i.e., the surface will be shown above the projected contour).  For example, enter a large value (e.g., 200%) to move the projected contour to a point far below the surface; enter a very small value (e.g., 5%) to move the projected contour to point very close on the vertical axis to the lowest z-value defining the surface.

Surface/contour legend

Use the options in the Surface/contour legend group to select the detail of the legend for the levels (surface colors) of the plotted surface or contours. Also use the Surface Specifications dialog box to further refine the colors, numbers of levels (for the vertical or z axis), and other properties of the displayed surface.

Auto

Select the Auto option button to let STATISTICA choose a relatively small number of surface levels (heights in the vertical dimension) that represent the range of vertical values spanned by the surface; these surface levels will be shown and properly labeled (with the respective vertical z values) in the legend.

Full

Select the Full option button to show a separate legend symbol and color for every level (height in the vertical dimension) of the plotted surface. Use the Surface Specifications dialog box to set the colors and number of levels.

Major ticks

Select the Major ticks option button to show a separate legend symbol and color for every level (height in the vertical dimension) of the plotted surface marked by a major tickmark (on the vertical axis). Use this option button to establish a direct correspondence between the vertical axis scaling and the surface colors used in the plot.

No more than k intervals

The No more than k intervals option button is similar to the Auto option button; however, in addition it allows you to limit the number of vertical levels (heights in the vertical dimension) that are identified in the legend by entering a specific number of intervals in the corresponding edit field.
