Within Effects Matrices in GLM, GRM, and ANOVA

The Within effects matrices are available on the GLM, GRM, and ANOVA Results - Matrix tab and the GLM, GRM, and ANOVA More Results - Matrix tab.

Element Name Description
Within effects The options in the Within effects group box are used to review various matrices involved in the computations for the within-subjects (repeated measures) effects. See the discussion of within-subjects (repeated measures) designs in the Introductory Overview for details.
M matrix Click the M matrix button to display a spreadsheet with the M transformation matrices for all within-subjects (repeated measures) effects.
Effect SSCPs Click the Effect SSCPs button to display a spreadsheet with the sums of squares and cross-product matrices for the within-subjects (repeated measures) effects; the values in this matrix are computed by pre- and post-multiplying the respective between SSCP matrices (see the Effect SSCPs in the Between effects group box) by the M (and M', respectively) matrices (see M matrix above). This option is also available on the GLM and ANOVA Results - Summary tab, in the Within effects group box.
Error SSCPs Click the Error SSCPs button to display a spreadsheet with the sums of squares and cross-product error matrices for the within-subjects (repeated measures) effects; the values in this matrix are computed by pre- and post-multiplying the between error SSCP matrix (see Error SSCPs in the Between effects group box) by the M (and M', respectively) matrices (see M matrix above). This option is also available on the GLM and ANOVA Results - Summary tab, in the Within effects group box.
Error corrs Click the Error corrs button to display a spreadsheet with the standardized sums of squares and cross-product error matrices for the within-subjects (repeated measures) effects; the values in this matrix are computed by standardizing the Error SSCP values (see above). This option is also available on the GLM and ANOVA Results - Summary tab, in the Within effects box. This matrix is useful for evaluating the sphericity and compound symmetry assumptions, and whether or not univariate tests for the within-subject (repeated measures) effects are valid. See the discussion of the Multivariate tests and the Introductory Overview for details; see also the ANOVA/MANOVA section on sphericity and compound symmetry.
