Variables
Click the Variables button to display a standard variable selection dialog box. STATISTICA expects 1) that you specify a grouping variable containing codes (text labels) that uniquely identify to which group each case belongs, and 2) that you specify an independent variable list of continuous variables that will later be used in the discriminant function analysis. Note that you can later "deselect" independent variables. Therefore, specify at this point all variables that you might want to use later.
Codes for grouping variable
Click the Codes for grouping variable button to display the Select Codes for Grouping Variable dialog box, in which you can specify the codes that are used in the data file to identify to which group each case belongs.
Advanced options (stepwise analysis)
Select the Advanced options (stepwise analysis) check box to display the Model Definition dialog box when you click the OK button. The Model Definition dialog box is used to specify the type of analysis and other options.
OK
Click the OK button to display a standard variable selection dialog box. If you have already selected variables, either the Model Definition dialog box or the Discriminant Function Analysis Results dialog box will be displayed (depending on the selections on the Quick tab).
Cancel
Click the Cancel button to close the Startup Panel without performing an analysis.
Options
See Options Menu for descriptions of the commands on this menu.
Open Data
Click the Open Data button to display the Select Data Source dialog box, which is used to choose the spreadsheet on which to perform the analysis. The Select Data Source dialog box contains a list of the spreadsheets that are currently active.
Select Cases
Click the Select Cases button to display the Analysis/Graph Case Selection Conditions dialog box, which is used to create conditions for which cases will be included (or excluded) in the current analysis. More information is available in the case selection conditions' overview, syntax summary, and dialog description.
W
Click the W (Weight) button to display the Analysis/Graph Case Weights dialog box, which is used to adjust the contribution of individual cases to the outcome of the current analysis by "weighting" those cases in proportion to the values of a selected variable.
MD deletion
Select the appropriate option button from the MD deletion group box to deal with missing data by Casewise deletion or Means Substitution.
Casewise
Select the Casewise option button to include only the cases that do not contain any missing data for any of the selected variables in the analysis.
Mean substitution
Select the Mean substitution option button to replace missing data by the means for the respective variables (for this analysis only, not in the data file).
