Locking a Spreadsheet

To lock an existing spreadsheet, follow these instructions:

Procedure

  1. Open the spreadsheet.
  2. From the Tools tab or menu, select Locking to display the Lock Spreadsheet dialog box.
  3. In the Prevent changes to box, select the aspects of the spreadsheet that you want to lock. You can lock the appearance (example, font size and color), variable display specifications (example, number formats), selection conditions and case weights, and the actual spreadsheet values.
  4. Enter and confirm a password to use when modifying the spreadsheet locks. Although passwords are not required when locking a spreadsheet, it is strongly recommended that you use one to prevent unauthorized users from clearing the locking conditions.
  5. Click OK to lock the selected spreadsheet features. Unauthorized users are not able to change the selected spreadsheet features.
