Open Excel File

When you are importing a Microsoft Excel file to a Statistica Spreadsheet, click the Import selected sheet to a Spreadsheet button in the Opening File dialog box to display the Open Excel File dialog box. If you are importing an Excel file from an Excel workbook, select which Excel worksheet you want to import to a Statistica Spreadsheet from the Select Sheet to Import dialog box to display the Open Excel File dialog box.

Note: Statistica stores dates as the number of days since January 1, 1900. This number of days is often called a Julian date. By default, Excel also stores dates in this manner, but provides an additional option to use January 1, 1904 as the base date rather than January 1, 1900.

When importing an Excel file that has this 1904 option set, Statistica automatically adjusts the Julian date to offset from January 1, 1900. This makes the dates display the same in both Excel and Statistica , though the underlying numbers are different.

Option Description
File name Displays the name of the Excel file.
Sheet name Displays the sheet name.
Get variable names from first row Select this check box to import the first row of the worksheet as the variable names rather than the first column. This check box is selected by default.
Get case names from first column Select this check box to import the first column of the worksheet as the case names rather than the first row.
Import cell formatting Select this check box to specify that the formatting is imported to the new spreadsheet.
Don't create text labels for numeric variables Excel spreadsheet data can contain numbers and text. When this check box is selected, it causes missing data to be placed in the cell in place of a text label/value pair. If the target variable is text, this option has no effect.
Range In this group box, select the specific rows and columns you want to import.
Columns: from/to The from and to boxes associated with the Columns govern the range of columns imported from the worksheet. By default all the columns of the worksheet are imported, but you can change the specifications in these boxes. The from box governs the first column to be imported from the worksheet. The to box governs the last column to be imported from the worksheet.
Rows: from/to The from and to boxes associated with the Rows govern the range of rows imported from the worksheet. By default all the rows of the worksheet are imported, but you can change the specifications in these boxes. The from box governs the first row to be imported from the worksheet. The to box governs the last row to be imported from the worksheet.
OK Opens the Excel file.
Cancel Closes this dialog box without opening an Excel file.
Variables Displays the Review/Edit Import Column Types dialog box.
