Workspace Node: 3D Scatter Image Plots - Quick Tab

The 3D Scatter Icon Plots workspace node can be accessed from the Feature Finder, ribbon bar, or Node Browser. The Quick tab is displayed by default when you double-click the node. Using the options in this node dialog box, you can create a scatterplot in which all or certain points will be represented by images (in lieu of or together with the point markers). You can also specify the variables, select images, specify the image sizes, and control the manner in which the images should appear on the 3D Scatter Image Plot.

Element Name Description
Variables Click this button to display a variable selection dialog box in which you select the X, Y, and Z variables for creating the scatterplot. You can optionally select a Weight variable that will be used to determine the image sizes and sizes of point markers; if one is not selected, the image sizes are determined according to the specifications made in the Image size group box (see below). The selections made in the variable selection dialog box will be displayed next to the Variables button.
Add/change image file Select a case in the Names of graphic files to be used as point markers list (described below), and click this button to display the Open dialog box, where you can browse to and select (add) an image file. The cases, identified by the case name or number, are displayed in the left column of the graphic files list. Or, select a graphic file name in the right column of the list, and then click this button to change the image file.

When the selection is complete, the name of the image file will be displayed adjacent to the case name/number in graphic files list. Note that the assignment of image files to cases is further determined by the selection in the Use image list box (see below).

Remove Select an image file in the graphic files list, and click the Remove button to delete the file name and consequently remove the image for the corresponding case.
Display point markers Select this check box to display the point markers in the scatterplot. Both point markers and images will be displayed for the cases for which image files are assigned. For all other cases, only point markers will be displayed.
Names of graphic files to be used as point markers This list contains the name or number of the cases in the data file and the graphic files assigned to the cases. To add a new image file for a case, click the case name or number, and then click the Add/change image file button. To change an existing image file, select the graphic file in the list, and then click the Add/change image file button. When an image file name is selected in the list, you can view the image in the Preview pane.
Use image You can either display separate images for the cases or the same images for groups of cases in the scatterplot.
For individual points Select this command to show images only for the cases that have an image file name specified. No image will be displayed for cases that do not have an image file assigned to it.
For all subsequent points When you select this command, Statistica uses an image file for the case for which the file is specified and continues using that image file for all subsequent cases until another case with another specified image file is found.
Specs for selected marker The options in this group box are used to control display characteristics of the image/point markers. These options apply only to the selected image/point marker; thus, first click on the case (row) in the Names of graphics files to be used as point markers list, and then set the desired options.
Update image The options in this drop-down list apply only to the image currently selected. Therefore, you will need to first select the image file in the Names of graphics files to be used as point markers list to which you want to apply one of the three commands:
Never Select this command if you do not want the selected image to be updated in the graph its lifetime.
On loading graph file Select this command if you want the selected image to be updated only when the graph file is loaded.
On each redraw When this command is selected, the currently selected image will be updated every time the graph is redrawn.
Transparent background Select this check box to provide a transparent background for the selected images. Note that this option is not available if the selected image file is a metafile (.wmf). To provide a transparent background to an image (other than .wmf), select the corresponding image file from the Names of graphics files to be used as point markers list, and then select the Transparent background check box.
Preview This pane shows a preview of the image contained in the image file that is currently selected in the Names of graphic files to be used as point markers list.
Image size The options in this group box are used to specify and sizes of the selected images.
Use/specify common size Select this option button to apply the same size to all the selected images, and then specify the desired common size in the Horizontal size and Vertical size fields (see below). All images displayed in the scatterplot will then be of the same size.
Use native image size Select this option button to retain the original sizes of the images (in proportion with the current graph dimensions). The Horizontal size and Vertical size options will no longer be available.
Use/specify image size Select this option button to specify different sizes for the selected images. Select the case from the Names of graphics files to be used as point markers list, and then select this option button. Then specify the desired dimensions of the selected image in the Horizontal size and Vertical size fields (see below). Note that these dimensions apply only to the currently selected image. Therefore, you will need to repeat the above sequence of operations, as many times as the number of images for which you want to specify different sizes.
Horizontal size Specify an integer value (in points) in this field as the horizontal dimension of the image.
Vertical size Specify an integer value (in points) in this field as the vertical dimension of the image.

OK Click this button to accept all the specifications made in the dialog box and to close it. The results are placed in the Reporting Documents node after running (updating) the project.
