Workspace Node: 2D Scatter Image Plots - Quick Tab

The 2D Scatter Image Plots workspace node can be accessed from the Feature Finder, ribbon bar, or Node Browser. The Quick tab of the specifications dialog box is displayed by default when you double-click the node.

The specifications dialog box contains options to create a scatterplot in which all or certain points will be represented by images (in lieu of or together with the point markers). Use the options on the Quick tab to specify the variables, select images, specify the image sizes, and control the manner in which the images should appear.

Element Name Description
Variables Click this button to display a variable selection dialog box, in which you select the X and Y variables for creating the scatterplot. You can select a Weight variable to determine the image sizes and sizes of point markers. Selection of the Weight variable is optional. If the Weight variable is not selected, the image sizes are determined according to the selections made in the Image size group box (see below). The selections that you make in the variable selection dialog box will be displayed to the right of the Variables button.
Add/change image file Click this button to select (add) image files or change already specified image files for the selected cases. To change an existing image file, first select the respective case in the scrollable list of cases, and then click this button; note that the assignment of image files to cases is also further determined by the selection in the Use image list box. When you click the Add/change image file button, a selection dialog box is displayed, which is used to select the type of image file (identified by its extension) and the name of the file. By default, you can attach files of type Metafile (.wmf), Jpeg (.jpg), Bitmap (.bmp), and Portable Network Graphics (.png).
Names of graphic files to be used as point markers You can select a case and image file by clicking on the respective case; then click the Add/change image file button to select the image file for the respective case(s); note that the assignment of image files to cases is also further determined by the selection in the Use image list box. When the selection is complete, the name of the image file will be displayed adjacent to the currently selected case in the spreadsheet. Correspondingly, the image contained in the currently specified image file will be displayed in the Preview window on the Quick tab.
Remove Click the Remove button to remove the image files for the selected cases. Select the image file in the Names of graphic files to be used as point markers spreadsheet) and click the Remove button to erase the file name and consequently remove the image for the corresponding case. If you now want to select an image file for this case, use the Add/change image files button again.
Display point markers Select this check box to display the point markers on the scatterplot. Both point markers and images will be displayed for the cases for which image files are assigned. For all other cases, only point markers will be displayed.
Use image You can display either separate images for each case or the same images for groups of cases. Select For individual points in the Use image drop-down box to use different images for the selected cases. If you select For all subsequent points, Statistica uses an image file for the case for which the file is specified and continue using it for all subsequent cases until it finds a case with another specified image file. Note that no image is displayed for a case if an image file is not assigned to it through one of the two options: For individual points, For all subsequent points.
Specs for selected marker The options in this group box are used to control display characteristics of the selected images/point markers. Note that these options will apply only to the selected images/point markers; thus, first click on the case (row) in the Names of graphic files to be used as point markers list, and then set the desired options.
Update image The options in this drop-down list apply only to the image currently selected. Therefore, first select the image file from the Names of graphic files to be used as point markers list to which you want to apply one of the three options: Never, On loading graph file, and On each redraw. Select Never if you do not want the selected image to be updated in the graph in its lifetime. Select On loading graph file if you want the selected image to be updated only when the graph file is loaded. If you select On each redraw, the currently selected image will be updated every time the graph is redrawn.
Transparent background Select this check box to provide a transparent background for the selected images. Note that this option is not available if the selected image file is a metafile (.wmf). To provide a transparent background to an image (other than wmf), select the corresponding image file in the Names of graphic files to be used as point markers spreadsheet, and then select the Transparent background check box.
Image size The options in this group box are used to specify and control the sizes of the selected images.
Use/specify common size Select this option button to apply the same size to all the selected images. Specify the desired common size in the Horizontal size and Vertical size edit fields. All images displayed in the scatterplot will then be the same size.
Use native image size Select this option button to retain the original sizes of the images (in proportion with the current graph dimensions). Accordingly, the options Horizontal size and Vertical size will no longer be available.
Use/specify image size Select this option button to specify different sizes for the selected images. Select the case from the Names of graphic files to be used as point markers list, and then select this option button. You can then specify the desired dimensions of the selected image in the Horizontal size and Vertical size edit fields. Note that these dimensions will apply only to the currently selected image. Therefore, you will need to repeat the above sequence of operations, as many times as the number of images for which you want to specify different sizes.
Horizontal size Specify an integer value (in points) in this edit field as horizontal dimension of the image.
Vertical size Specify an integer value (in points) in this edit field as vertical dimension of the image.
Preview This window shows a preview of the image contained in the image file that is currently selected in the Names of graphic files to be used as point markers field.
