Creating a Smart Map

Create a Smart Map to match fields from the source (Salesforce object) to those available in a destination target (such as Marketo), and define an event to trigger the data transfer.

This example uses the Salesforce Leads object as the source, and the Marketo Lead object as the destination. However, you can use any other Salesforce object as a source. Destination object choices are currently limited to Marketo.

Note: Some Saleforce objects are restricted and are not available for mapping. Those that are available, appear in the list.

Select and Map the Salesforce Object

Procedure

  1. Click the Smart Map tab, and click Create your first Smart Map (or click + Add a Smart Map).
  2. At the dialog, select and edit the name so that it is appropriate for your requirements. For example: Lead Insert Map.
Click the + Add Description to add a description (optional).
  3. At the Select Salesforce Object select the Leads object.

To find an object enter a few letters such as lea in the search box to narrow your search.

Only Salesforce objects that available for mapping will appear in this list.

  4. Under How does this Smart Map run? define which event triggers Run.
Your choices are After or Before.

For this example, select After from the drop-down

  5. Lastly, select whether you want to Insert, Update or Delete data.
    For this example, select Insert.
  6. Click Create when you are done.

The system creates a visual flow of the steps. A dotted line indicates that the step is incomplete.

Next, set up the destination object.

Set up and Map the Desination Object

This example walks you through how to select and set up the destination object for Marketo; and allows you to change the data in Marketo, using information from Salesforce.

Procedure

  1. From Smart Maps > Lead Insert Map click the Destination object section
  2. At the Selection dialog select the Marketo object you configured in Settings.
  3. Once selected, the system opens the Field Mapping Options dialog and displays the Salesforce object fields on the left, and the selected destination object fields on the right. Each Salesforce object field is mapped to a possible destination object field.
The mappings are weighted and scored. The ones mapped with a high degree of confidence are pre-selected.
  4. Scroll through the list to check the mappings. You can change existing mappings and manually select mappings for fields that were not matched.
  5. Check the boxes for the mapped fields to include them, or clear the boxes to exclude fields from the data transfer.
  6. Once you are satisfied with the mappings and the fields, click Save.

Activating the Smart Map

The Activate Smart Map button appears each time you edit and save mapped fields.

At the confirmation dialog you have the option to Activate the Smart Map now, or to Activate later. Activate the Smart Map to begin making changes. If a change is made to the source object, that change (if mapped) is also modified in the destination. See the following for more information.

  • Select Activate later to add a button that allows you to activate the map when you are ready to proceed.
  • To delete the map, click the Ellipsis menu on the top right. This deletes both the Activate Smart Map option and the map. Once a map is deleted it cannot be restored.
  • Suspend the Smart Map function from the drop-down on the object mapper dialog at any time. This suspends the connector and no further changes will occur until you select Activate.
  • Once the Smart Map is activated, the field-mapping switches to read-only mode and cannot be edited manually.
