Taking an Online Backup of the ActiveMatrix BPM System

Procedure

  1. Using ActiveMatrix Administrator, suspend the ActiveMatrix enterprise that is hosting ActiveMatrix BPM. See "Putting an Enterprise in a Suspended State" in SOA Administration for more information about how to do this.
  2. Back up all of the following:
    • TIBCO_HOME - the directory in which ActiveMatrix BPM is installed
    • CONFIG_HOME - the directory that stores ActiveMatrix BPM configuration data
    • SHARED_DIR - the directory that stores shared configuration data used by ActiveMatrix BPM and/or ActiveMatrix Administrator (only present on a distributed BPM system)
Note: Ensure that you preserve the timestamps when backing up these directories. This is important when restoring from a backup because the file timestamps are used to decide the correct order in which to start components.
    • The ActiveMatrix BPM database
    • The BDS case data store (if hosted separately from the ActiveMatrix BPM database)
Note: The BDS case data store is transactionally connected to the ActiveMatrix BPM database, so you should obtain the assistance of your database administrator to make sure that this backup is done correctly.
    • The ActiveMatrix Administrator database
    • The TIBCO EMS server
Note: See the documentation supplied with your database server for information on how to back up the databases. See the TIBCO Enterprise Message Service documentation for more information on how to backup the EMS server.
  3. Wait until all of the backup operations have completed.
  4. Using ActiveMatrix Administrator, revert the ActiveMatrix enterprise that is hosting ActiveMatrix BPM to unsuspended (or normal) state. See "Putting an Enterprise in an Unsuspended State" in SOA Administration for more information on how to do this.
Any state changes to BPM applications that were queued while the enterprise was suspended are now processed as normal.

What to do next

If you subsequently need to restore the ActiveMatrix BPM system from this backup, see Restoring the ActiveMatrix BPM System from an Online Backup.
