Introduction to TIBCO LogLogic® Enterprise Virtual Appliance

You can quickly get started with the LogLogic® EVA.

The LogLogic EVA offers a virtual version of the TIBCO LogLogic® Log Management Intelligence hardware appliance. The LogLogic EVA is distributed on the EVA Download Site in the form of an .ova, compatible with VMware ESXi and VMware Workstation.

The standard LogLogic EVA has the following characteristics and limitations:

  • Supports a maximum of 100,000 devices
  • Supports a maximum of 16 TB on local storage on EXT2 and EXT3 file systems.
  • Starting release 6.1.0, supports a maximum of 16 TB on external storage on EXT4 file systems.
  • Minimum supported VMware version has changed to ESXi5.1 and VMware Workstation 9.x
  • Supports the installation of TIBCO LogLogic® Log Source Packages. For more information on how to obtain and import filters, alerts, and custom reports, see the TIBCO LogLogic® Log Source Packages Release Notes.
  • Can be configured as a Management Station
  • Up to 10 years of raw data retention
  • Starting with release 6.2.0, memory for all Advanced Feature engines: MySQL, Indexer, and Tomcat is dynamically allocated in LogLogic EVA. Configurations are applied based on the memory configuration of LogLogic EVA virtual hardware. For details about memory configurations, see Dynamic Memory Configurations.
Note:
  • While LogLogic EVA is running on hypervisors with slower I/O speed, the system might run into a virtual disk timeout issue, and a message might be displayed:
mptscsih: ioc0: attempting task abort! (sc=ffff8801995d3e80)
mptscsih: ioc0: task abort: SUCCESS (sc=ffff8801995d3e80)
The solution is to create a new udev rule file /etc/udev/rules.d/98-vmware-scsi-udev.rules with the content:
    ACTION=="add", BUS=="scsi", SYSFS{model}=="*[Vv]irtual [Dd]isk*", RUN+="/bin/sh -c 'echo 180 >/sys$DEVPATH/device/timeout'"
Doing so increases the disk timeout period to survive the slower I/O environment. Reboot the machine after creating the file.
  • LogLogic EVA has the ability to grow its storage by attaching additional virtual SCSI hard drives to the instance. To increase your LogLogic EVA storage, please contact TIBCO Support to purchase additional licenses and steps on how to grow the disk size.
  • Cloning of LogLogic EVA virtual appliances is not supported.
  • Before upgrading to LogLogic® LMI 6.2.0, the CPU and memory of LogLogic EVA must be changed to match the Minimum Hardware Requirements of LogLogic LMI.
  • When increasing the local storage, you must also increase the memory of the instance, to consider the high memory consumption by the fsck utility. For every 1 TB of storage, you must have 1 GB of RAM.

Minimum Hardware Requirements

  • CPU – Intel Compatible (2 GHz minimum)
  • Cores - 8 minimum
  • Memory – 32 GB minimum
Note: A minimum of 64GB RAM is recommended if you are using Advanced Features.
  • Network Adapter – 1 minimum; up to 6
  • Disk – 500 GB
  • VM Controller – LSI Logic RAID
  • VM Hard Drive – SCSI type
