File Monitor Input Adapter Sample

About This Sample

This adapter sample illustrates the use of the TIBCO StreamBase® File Monitor Adapter, which watches a directory or specific file for changes and emits tuples that describe file system changes as they occur.

Importing This Sample into StreamBase Studio

In StreamBase Studio, import this sample with the following steps:

  • From the top menu, select FileLoad StreamBase Sample.

  • Type filem to narrow the list of options.

  • Select File Monitor input adapter from the StreamBase Standard Adapters category.

  • Click OK.

StreamBase Studio creates a single project containing the sample files.

Running filemonitor.sbapp in StreamBase Studio

  1. In the Project Explorer, open the sample you just loaded.

  2. Open the src/main/eventflow folder.

  3. Open the package folder (most samples contain a single package folder. Open the top-level package folder if your sample contains more than one folder).

  4. Open the named application file and click the Run button. This opens the SB Test/Debug perspective and starts the application.

If you see red marks, wait a moment for the project in Studio to load its features.

If red marks do not resolve themselves in a moment, select the project and right-click MavenUpdate Project from the context menu.

  5. By default the file monitor sample is set up to monitor your Java temp directory. If you want to monitor another folder:

In the Manual Input view, select the Control stream.

Enter a path for path, and true for the remaining fields and click Send Data.

  6. In the Output Streams view, observe tuples emitted on the FileMonitorStatus output stream

  7. Use a command window or file system tool to modify the folders and files inside the TestFolder or add and delete other files and folders. Observe the content of tuples emitted on the FileNotifications output stream.

  8. Press F9 or click the Stop Running Application button.
